By Donna Penley
He put his horse out t’ pasture,
Hung his saddle on th’ wall;
His cowboy pards went out t’ brand dogies,
Left ‘im in th’ bunkhouse feelin’ small.
What do ya do with a wore out ol’ cowboy,
Who can no longer trust his rope?
Can he prove t’ th’ foreman he kin carry his weight?
Or, is there jest no hope?
Donna Penley is a Cowgirl Poet with deep Kansas roots who has been writing cowboy poetry for over twenty five years. She is a real Cowgirl and an ex-barrel racer.
