STANDIN’ ON TH’ RIMROCK
By Donna Penley
Tonight as I stand on th’ rim rock, I feel what th’ spirits must feel;
Th’ vast panorama, th’ sheer majesty, makes me humble, my sould t’ kneel
Before th’ power of nature -- life, death, th’ call of th’ wild;
Th’ things that go on around us as time passes by --
Th’ return of man to a child.
For, a child only sees th’ truth of it all, an’ man sees only th’ gain ’
Th’ condition of th’ human spirit is a mix of great joy an’ great pain.
Th’ bright candle that flickers on th’ bunkhouse table throws dark shadows on th’ wall -
An’ th’ feather that’s loosed from th’ eagle can’t fortell it’s fall.
If you stand out here on th’ rim rock, you can truly see for miles;
An’ you realize you’re far, far away from life’s most maudlin trials..
For, if you want t’ gain wisdom, you put yourself to th’ test --
An’ you stand out here on th’ rim rock, --
‘Cause, from here, th’ view’s th’ best!!
