MY KINGDOM FOR A HORSE!By Donna Penley
Out in th’ west when things was rough A cowpoke’s life was mighty tough! But, on one thing he could depend – To help him survive an’ t’ be his friend – An’, that was his HORSE. Every cowboy had his favorite mount; A cayouse on which he could always count – I wish that was true of my lot today There’re times that I can truly say -- My kingdom for a Horse! Now, let me tell why about my string; There’s times that I’d give anything T’ have a horse who would do it all; Wouldn’t matter if he was short or tall – If he was just a Horse! There’s Richard Too, yes that’s his name; He’s never brought me fortune or fame, An’ when it comes time to work a cow, He won’t do it anyhow, -- But, he’s my favorite horse. Then there’s My Ol’ Jag. He’s 4 years old; Afraid of everything – his heart’s not bold. Before me, Jaguar was abused, an’ he trusts only me; Which kinda suits me somehow, suits me to a T! I call him my Sissy Horse! Then there’s Intriguing Echo. No I didn’t name him that; Now that his papers are in my name, I’ll take care of that! An’ w e just call him Ian, which in Irish, it means John, Ian’s a real pretty boy.,but’ in “horse savvy”, he ain’t long! Oh, my kingdom for a real broke horse!! But, when I really think on it, I wouldn’t give ‘em up; Wouldn’t trade ‘em for a tabby cat, or a clumsy hounddog pup. So, I’ll just keep my misfits, th’ feed bills I’ll keep a’ payin’; I love all three, as you’ve surmised – an’ th’ truth is, I am sayin’ I couldn’t live without ‘em. MY KINGDOM IS A HORSE!!!
