I WANT A HORSE
By Donna Penley “Oh, I really want a horse”, she said, As she tassed the auburn curls on her well coifed head. An’, the kid with her was twenty, maybe nineteen, All duded up in his Stetson hat and his Calvin Klein jeans. She traced the air with her hands -- “I really want a horse, I do”. Her inch long fingernails a bright and shiny hue. An’ I knew this young woman didn’t have a clue About the money she would spend or the work she’d have to do. SO I ASKED -- “Are you up to grainin’ twice a day -- getting up at the crack of dawn. Or, breakin’ ice so’s he can drink when the good weather’s up and gone. If you have a mare in foal, you jest cain’t take a break While she’s laboring’ hard in the middle of the night T’ bring her foal to the morning light. An’ if you don’t have a little place of your own you have no idea how much money you will spend Getting’ that horse a box stall and run. You’ll spend money to no end. But, here’s what you could do, You could come to work for me and you might learn a thing or two. Well, he looked at her - she looked at him; “We’ll have to think on it”, he said. And they both ran totheir car and down the road they sped. AND IT DIDN’T SELL A HORSE THAT DAY! Protected by copyright Comments are closed.
