NOTHIN’ LASTS FOREVER
By Donna Penley Th’ old cowboy had been a top hand, but was ridin’ his last ride; On a cool October morning’ I sat down by his side. He motioned t’ bend down over him, ere he did depart, “Cause he had some cowboy wisdom that he wished t’ impart. An’, as I leaned down over him, this is what he said: “I’ve lived a good an’ full life, but now can’t leave this bed! But, you son, have your whole life stretched out in front of you, So, if you wanta be a top hand, I’ll give you this one clue -- Live each day as if it were your very last; Always look to th’ future, an’ don’t dwell in th’ past. Work can’t be your whole life, so stop an’ smell th’ flowers, Rememberin’ that your life is measured in days an’ hours. Put your whole heart into whatever you may do, Keep your promises an’ pledges,. Stick t’ them like glue. An’ this one clue is from my heart, an’ I don’t mean t’ sound clever, Live your life rememberin’ that NOTHING LASTS FOREVER! “ He gave a little chuckling’ sound, then th’ cowboy, he was gone, But to this day I remember. His last words still live on -- “Nothing lasts forever!” Copyright Protected
